Walsh made a shocking arrival on the show in the Season 1 finale, when she was revealed to be the wife of Meredith Grey’s love interest Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey).

She would become a series regular from the seventh episode of season two through season three, during which her character Addison supervised surgery at Gray Sloan.

Beginning in 2007, her character was drawn to Los Angeles, the setting of her spin-off series Private Practice.

The people behind his medical drama detailed Dr. McDreamy’s dark side in author Lynette Rice’s unauthorized oral history, How to Save a Life: The Inside Story Of Grey’s Anatomy.

In a scathing excerpt from the book published by The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer James D. Parriott explained how “HR issues” ultimately led to the death of Dempsey’s character in 2015 at the end of season 11.

Parriot – one of more than 80 sources for the book – said: ‘There were human resource issues. It was in no way sexual. He kind of terrorized the set, some cast members had all kinds of PTSD with him.

Patrick, 55, entered the production as the biggest name, giving him instant influence, and when his character Dr. Derek Shepherd – Meredith Grey’s love interest – became a favorite heartthrob of the hours of prime time, his impact on set grew.
