Another Rescued Reptile Heads South to Zoo Atlanta

MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) – Another reptile from J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue (JRAAR) has been adopted by Zoo Atlanta in Georgia.

Last month, J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue received a call for help from a Waukesha reptile breeder who needed to release more than 120 animals that were being kept in a storage locker.

Since, volunteers within JRAAR worked around the clock to place them in the best possible homes. Zoo Atlanta staff heard about the situation at Menasha and offered to help, thus adopting one of the reptiles.

“It’s the ideal situation,” says John Moyles of JRAAR. “Moving from a storage locker at Zoo Atlanta is a true Cinderella story.”

The reptile is a savanna monitor, a species of large lizard from Africa. The animal has been adopted and will be trained to become an ‘Animal Ambassador’ to educate people of all ages about animals and inspire the next generation of animal lovers.
